daydreaming16 Nov 2008 09:41 am

In the last 11 months, our son has been showing us the world through the eyes of somebody who is seeing it for the first time. It is difficult to believe how much we had been missing. This design is dedicated to those who have been able to make it to adulthood without losing their sense of joy and amazement at the many wonders that surround us at every instance – the true daydreamers.

treelungs30 Aug 2008 10:32 pm

This design dates back to 2004 when we first started dreaming about parkarma. Somehow we never came around to finish it until now. The Treelungs idea is intimately connected to the concept of parkarma in the sense that it reflects our concerns with deforestation and the burst of urban environments. We are putting at stake our own existence through our daily choices. We hope this design reminds whom ever comes across it that we are linked through our lungs and the air that must flow through them, to the earth and the trees that grow on it. It is our responsibility to ensure that future generations (of trees and humans and all other living things) can inhabit our planet, and coexist in a sustainable way.

If you are familiar with our work then you certainly are aware of our endless love for music. This design, in praise of the format we most enjoy listening to, was totally inspired by our vynil collection.
We hope you enjoy this t-shirt as much as we enjoy listening to our records.

I bike amsterdam07 Mar 2008 01:49 am

We were born in a country (Portugal) where you either ride a car, or walk (if you can’t afford one). When we moved to Amsterdam one of the things that we enjoyed the most was the fact that you could go anywhere by bicycle. This has several advantages for the environment and well-being of locals, which are too obvious to state. Amsterdammers take great pride in this, and rightly so, since it is no easy task to push cars out of cities. The bikes (around 600,000 only in the city of Amsterdam) leave a strong impression on the estimated 7,037,000 tourists that visit the city each year. It welcomes them to be part of an alternative to cities made for cars instead of people. With the “I bike Amsterdam” design we hope to somehow prolong this bicycle-friendly feeling and maybe encourage some of Amsterdam’s visitors to take this wonderful means of transportation back with them to their hometown.

Every spring, migratory birds nest in branches near the window of our attic. They bring along the latest tunes, which are used in true hip hop style battles to compete for the attention of females. Esfero has the habit of imitating and registering how these memes evolve through out the season. This year the arrival of the birds coincided with our realization that Joana is pregnant. We followed all their nesting and bi-parental care with special tenderness. This design is dedicated to them.

G-clef12 Aug 2007 01:22 pm

Again about music… On this design one can read “chronology of musical notation” below the different representations that have been used to depict the G-clef. As much as possible, we tried to keep historical accuracy, except for the satirical XXI century G-clef. Quoting Jeffrey Lewis, “don’t let the record label take you out to lunch”.

polaroid camera17 Feb 2007 12:26 am

Even though this design was highly influenced by Susan Sontag’s “On Photography”, we first designed the polaroid t-shirt merely looking for the beauty in the object itself. Quickly the design triggered us to analyze concepts such as instant photography, plastic-made, surprise effect, and many other polaroid tags. This technique to seeminglessly polarize light and instantly retrieve an image, in perspective, appears to have prophecized digital photography and its vertiginous massification. Nowadays all is expected to happen fast, and polaroids, even though analogue, are a great metaphor of our everyday life. A lot remains to be said on photography, but we will finish off with a quote from Diane Arbus: “A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells you the less you know.”

sad music22 Aug 2006 10:59 pm

As members of this society we are pressured to be strong and successful. We are often encouraged to repress our emotions and behave accordingly. Luckily when we were teens it was not all about shakin’ that ass, having the money and showing off your gun. In our case, due to emo and indie music from the 90′s we learned the confort of being sad.…we still cannot get away from music, can we?

machine22 Aug 2006 10:57 pm

A variation of our first design (amplifier), in which we included a legendary sentence, from the legendary folk musician Woody Guthrie. We were somehow inspired by the early hippie folk days from Greenwich Village, when anyone not in line with the establishment was falsely cataloged as a communist, and outcasted. The thought that ideas and art can overturn systems that don’t respect individuality is for us inspiring and worth to be remembered on a t-shirt.

amplifier22 Aug 2006 10:55 pm

Parkarma is for us a mean of amplifying our creativity, thoughts, ideas, concerns, protests, love, and emotions. It also reflects our neverending love for music. This is our first t-shirt design and we love it for that.
